Tikka refers to a popular Indian dish that consists of marinated pieces of meat or vegetables, skewered and cooked to perfection, often in a tandoor (clay oven) or grilled. The term “”tikka”” translates to “”pieces,”” typically indicating small, bite-sized portions that are bursting with flavour.
Commonly made with chicken, lamb, or paneer (Indian cottage cheese), the ingredients are marinated in a blend of yoghurt and spices, such as cumin, coriander, and garam masala, which tenderise the meat and infuse it with rich flavours. After marination, the skewers are cooked until they achieve a smoky aroma and a charred exterior, while remaining juicy and tender inside.
Tikka is often served as an appetiser or snack, accompanied by fresh mint chutney and lemon wedges. Its versatility has led to various adaptations, including vegetarian and seafood options, making tikka a cherished dish that showcases the essence of Indian culinary traditions. Whether at a celebration or a casual gathering, tikka delights palates and brings people together.
