Chappati, also spelled chapati, is a traditional Indian unleavened flatbread that holds a special place in South Asian households. Made primarily from whole wheat flour (atta) and water, chappati is a staple accompaniment to various dishes, from rich curries to lentil stews.
The preparation of chappati is both simple and artful. The dough is kneaded to a soft consistency, then rolled into thin discs before being cooked on a hot griddle (tava).
