Ullundu Vadai

Ullundu vadai, also known as urad dal vada, is a popular South Indian snack made from urad dal (black gram). Renowned for its crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior, this deep-fried delicacy is a staple at festivals, celebrations, and as a tea-time snack.

To prepare ullundu vadai, urad dal is soaked, ground into a thick batter, and seasoned with spices such as cumin, black pepper, and chopped green chilies. The batter is then shaped into round discs with a hole in the centre, allowing for even cooking and a delightful texture. When fried to a golden brown, the vadai becomes crunchy on the outside while remaining soft and airy inside.

Served hot with coconut chutney or sambar, ullundu vadai is cherished for its rich flavours and satisfying crunch. Its unique taste and texture make it a beloved snack that embodies the essence of South Indian culinary traditions, inviting everyone to indulge in this crispy delight.
